Recently I was tasked with adding a custom blog page and a static home page to a pre-existing WordPress site. Since the client was already using WordPress I assumed the task would be relatively straight forward as WP supports this natively, but this did not turn out to be the case.

Creating a local development site for testing updates and changes has always been industry best practice. Most of the time we are trying to move our development sites from a local server to production, but in some cases you will need to copy a live production site to a local server. In this article I will break down the process of transferring a live WordPress site to a local server.  I have also included some troubleshooting tips and solutions to problems I have encountered during this process.
